Meiosis is
1) a cell division in which genetically non-identical daughter cells are produced
2) the daughter cells are haploid (half number of chromosomes)
3) four daughter cells are produced
Meiosis is important for the formation of gametes, as the fusion of two gametes (one male, one female) restores the DIPLOID condition which is the normal condition for most living things (I say MOST because some plants can be triploid/polyploid due to asexual reproduction)
In general if there was an ESSAY question to come out on Meiosis, it would generally be restricted to its definition. There are more questions to ask on mitosis (such as in your 2013 mock paper)
