PRACTICAL MARK SCHEME

So.. a question about mark scheme for drawings in practical? This actually depends on what you are drawing. Generally....

1) You get one mark for CLEAN, CLEAR drawings that are above 5-6cm in length

2) If it asks for labels, usually 2 labels give you one mark (maximum marks for labels is ONE, so far that I've seen anyway, and YOU WON'T KNOW what labels they are looking for so LABEL EVERYTHING THAT YOU CAN!!!

3) If they ask for lines for magnification- one mark (like drawing a line across the width of your drawing to calculate for magnification like in Practical 21 of our prac book)

4) Specific parts of your specimen- like banana/cucumber/ other fruits- they usually look for different sections (middle portion usually is different looking with seeds and more details, vascular bundles around the outside portion perhaps etc etc)

5) Your drawing must look realistic :P not cartoon-y or oversimplified.... BUT don't go the other extreme and draw EVERY SINGLE DETAIL (like colouration markings or shadows!)

EXAMPLES OF SPECIMENS THAT HAVE COME OUT BEFORE (I tried to find the most similar looking specimen/drawing ok?) :)

CUCUMBER (LABELS REQUIRED)

SHRIMP/PRAWN (LABELS NOT REQUIRED.... THANK GOODNESS!)

MOSQUITO (LABELS NOT REQUIRED.... THANK GOODNESS! CAME OUT LAST YEAR SO DOUBT IT WILL COME OUT AGAIN)

TOMATO (LABELS REQUIRED)

OTHER STUFF YOU'VE ALREADY DRAWN- Leaves, flowers, beans/seeds, cross section of banana

Anything else you've come across?? Let me know :)
